Marriage
Requirements
The
following are some more important documents for
marriage arrangement. |
| 1. |
Application
letter (must be signed by both parties and in English)
indicating that both applicants are single and want
to marry in Zanzibar with intended date of marriage.
This letter should be addressed to Regional Commissioner,
Zanzibar. The couples should be on Zanzibar for
two full working (days) days before the wedding
day. |
| 2.
|
Both
parties must have photocopies of a valid passport
and birth certificate. |
| 3.
|
If
either party is divorced, a decree absolute must
be presented. If documents are not in English they
must be accompanied by a notarized translation.
|
| 4. |
A
paper stating you are single, if either party is
widowed, a copy of the death certificate of the
deceased spouse must be presented. |
| 5.
|
If
the ceremony is to be performed by a Catholic priest,
it must take place in a Catholic Church, and a letter
must come from the couple's resident priest verifying
that they are unmarried and have received the necessary
instructions. |
| 6.
|
Certificate
of domicile and two passport size of each both parties. |
| 7.
|
Official
letter from the Church stating the marriage has
been registered and the bans announced in the country
of origin |
| 8.
|
If
parties have never been married before an affidavit
is required confirming single status and can be
obtained from a Notary Public in the home country
(compulsory in town) |
| 9.
